The Archaeological City Museum is located at 25 Zrinsko Frankopanska Street and presents the richest exposition of Split's life history. The antique palace of the ancient Roman emperor Diocletian, is the best preserved monument of this period in Europe, has become a kind of heart and the main calling card of the city. It is built in the form of a powerful quadrangular fortress with high thick protective walls around the entire perimeter of a spacious paved courtyard.

Watchtowers rose at the corners of the walls, gates led inside the fence:
